Decentraland’s Annual Art Week Returns with a New Theme

Decentraland has officially announced the much-anticipated return of its yearly Art Week, set to take place from September 24 to September 27, 2025. This year’s theme, “TOUCH GRASS,” aims to transform Decentraland into an interactive showcase filled with installations, workshops, and activities led by over thirty prominent artists. The festival is designed to cut through the distractions of the digital realm, encouraging attendees to contemplate the future of virtual environments and humanity’s role within these spaces. “Decentraland Art Week demonstrates how artists are embracing virtual realms as a legitimate extension of their work and encourages others to take their initial steps into this space. This year’s roster, featuring renowned artists like Sara Shakeel and Johanna Jaskowska, highlights the importance of this transformation,” stated Bay Backner, Head Producer of Art Week at the Decentraland Foundation. “With the theme TOUCH GRASS, the festival reimagines how digital art can enrich our lives within a future that feels both human and idealistic.”

Key Programming Features

The 2025 edition of Decentraland Art Week is set to guide participants through the process of creating within three-dimensional environments. In addition to large-scale immersive installations, the schedule includes initiatives aimed at educating and empowering creators at various levels of experience. The first day will focus on the potential of virtual worlds and provide guidance on beginning the creative process in Decentraland. The second day’s programming will delve into how artists can achieve recognition and gain invitations to virtual and mixed-reality exhibitions. On the third day, the spotlight will shift to artificial intelligence, with partners like CSM, ImagineArt, and Sloyd showcasing tools available for anyone to create 3D artworks suitable for gaming. The event will conclude on the fourth day with a summary of key workshops and a celebratory party marking the end of the festival.

Collaboration with Digital Fashion Week

In anticipation of Art Week, Decentraland is joining forces with Digital Fashion Week (DFW) to present the future of virtual exhibitions. On September 11 in New York at Shift Midtown and September 18 in London at Epic Games, attendees will experience activations that blend in-person and online interactions. Features will include an “inside-out” runway, projection-mapped showrooms, and interactive photo booths where guests can try on new fashion designs for avatars created by Loreine Studio, Emilija Slavkova, Stephen Vineburg, and Right Direction. These designs will carry over into Decentraland Art Week, reimagined as an immersive showroom complete with exclusive giveaways of avatar Wearables.

Immersive Installations on Display

Over thirty large-scale installations will be scattered throughout Decentraland, many of which will convert previously underutilized areas into vibrant cultural hubs. Certain works will remain accessible for at least a year, ensuring their influence lasts well beyond the festival. Notable installations include:
– **Sara Shakeel’s The Forgotten Sense**: The award-winning artist, popular with 1.5 million Instagram followers and known for collaborations with brands like Coach and Swarovski, presents a dazzling digital environment that sparkles with light while reflecting on the human experiences we’ve lost: touch, earth, and warmth.
– **Johanna Jaskowska’s Synthetic Rest**: A trailblazer in digital aesthetics, Jaskowska is recognized for her viral Beauty3000 AR filter and partnerships with major brands such as Adidas, Nike, and Kenzo. Synthetic Rest offers visitors a tranquil yet eerie environment where technology manifests as skin and silence embodies presence, reflecting on intimacy and the evolving relationship between humans and machines.
– **Amber Vittoria’s Where Her Thoughts Can Land**: An acclaimed artist with collaborations that include World of Women, K-Swiss, and L’Oréal, Vittoria creates vibrant, poetic interpretations of femininity and form. Where Her Thoughts Can Land transforms Decentraland into an imaginative landscape filled with monumental sculptures, inviting exploration and play.
– **Clara Bacou’s Bloomfang**: Having created visuals for Coldplay, Blackpink, and Elton John, Bacou has also led XR campaigns for luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Nike. Bloomfang introduces a mythical creature born from overgrown gardens and whispering lawns, playfully challenging the sterile aesthetics of digital pixels through her signature fantasy-driven artistry.
– **Micah Alhadeff’s BloomSynth**: A digital artist whose work has been featured at prestigious venues like Sotheby’s New York and The Royal Institute in London, Alhadeff combines memory, myth, and technology in his creations. BloomSynth envisions a desolate landscape of sand and ruins where two figures gather around a relic from the future’s past, evoking glitches from a lost world.

Art Week will unfold from September 24 to 27 within Decentraland. Participants can prepare by installing Decentraland on their desktop, customizing their avatars, and getting ready to explore the festivities. Detailed information regarding the schedule and installations can be found on Decentraland’s official site.
